Introduction
The Agricultural Engineering Division has become very diverse over the years since the business started as Millwrights and Engineers at Rhymers Mill, Earlston in 1911. The Swinton Mill branch opened in 1996 and is situated between Duns and Coldstream at the Swinton Mill crossroads; it is well placed in the heart of Berwickshire to serve customers in the surrounding area and North Northumberland. The East Linton branch opened in 2001 on Dunbar Road in East Linton and although it is in East Lothian it is ideally sited to cover Mid Lothian and West Lothian.
The core part of the Agricultural Division is the full complement of sales, service and parts of our range of machinery dealerships. The Sales team is lead by Keith Robertson who is based in Earlston, Allan White based at Swinton Mill and Douglas Kerrison at East Linton. The main dealership is CASE IH who have a full range of tractors from 60hp up to 543hp and also includes their Axial Flow combines. The range of Lely Grass Machinery along with Welger balers, Rabe cultivation equipment, WestMac Belair feeders, Port Agric toppers and many other leading suppliers of agricultural machinery are all part of the line up.
Rutherford Trailer Centres are part of this division and are main distributors for Ifor Williams Trailers. This business has grown year upon year since we sold our first Ifor Williams trailer in March 1987. Each branch has a trailer centre offering the range of commercial, livestock and horse trailers along with a full parts and service back up.
Rutherford has been involved with ATVs since 1986 and with Kawasaki have built up a specialist department ensuring the customer gets a full back up for service and parts. This department has recently expanded to include Arctic Cat ATVs and along with the Kawasaki Mule range this side of the business has lead to Rutherford becoming one of the largest dealers in the UK.
Rutherford Groundcare is a new addition to the division and has been developed from the recent appointment as main dealers for Yanmar Compact Tractors. We also offer a range of Groundcare and Garden Machinery from leading suppliers Snapper from Briggs and Stratton, Lawn King, Zenoah, Kawasaki, Westwood and Draper. Our main showroom display for Rutherford Groundcare is based at our Swinton Mill branch with Yanmar products operated from our East Linton branch.
After Sales is a very important part of the company and Rutherford has built a reputation for offering a full service workshop service, which is supported by our parts departments at each branch. Derek Campbell heads up the After Sales department and is supported by a day-to-day management team at each branch.
Gillian Purves is branch manager at East Linton with Andrew Redpath being branch manager at Swinton Mill, both Gillian and Andrew handle the parts departments at each branch. Angus Baxter heads up the parts department at Earlston.
Each workshop has a working foreman with Gordon Hardie supported by Robbie Robson, who is also responsible for the ATV workshop, running the Earlston branch. Euan McGregor runs the workshop at Swinton Mill and Jock Baptie is responsible for the East Linton workshop. Rutherford service vans operate from each branch with specially trained technicians who visit farms for on site repairs and service work.
Derek Campbell is based in the service reception office at Earlston and is supported by Lesley Shiel with all the after sales administration.
